How do I order my usual medication?
There are several ways to order any medication that you might need:
- Via the patient portal. This is the easiest and quickest way to get your medications. If you have regular repeats, you can easily find them listed, just tick the ones you need and make sure you have indicated the pharmacy where you want them delivered. You can also list any additional medications in the free text space, as long as your doctor has prescribed them for you in the past. You can also write a brief note to the doctor if needed.
- Alternatively, you can contact the practice and speak to one of our receptionists, who can transfer you to our nursing team if required. Please have your medications ready to list to the nurse.
- You can personally visit the practice and drop off a list, but please make sure it’s legible!
When you ask for a script, the request goes through to your usual doctor who will review your medical records. It’s important to have regular checks for most medications, so if it has been a while since you were seen, your request may be declined and we will ask you to make an appointment. The timing of this does depend on your own unique health needs and takes into account any monitoring that may need to happen, such as blood tests or examinations.
Recently, Government changed legislation to allow for 12-month scripts, but this will not come into effect until next year. Despite this, your doctor may still require you to have more regular checks between scripts. You can discuss this with your doctor to understand what monitoring and reviews will be needed in your situation.
Currently, most scripts can be done for a maximum of three months. The only exception to this three-month rule is ‘controlled’ drugs, which can be done for a maximum of a month at a time. There is a charge for a script to be generated, and a slightly higher charge if the script is needed urgently.
If you are unsure how to request a script, don’t hesitate to contact reception on 07 578 7087 and we will point you in the right direction.
