Dr Nick Hanna

Nick moved to Tauranga in 1981 having graduated from Otago Medical School to work at Tauranga Hospital, then joining the Practice at the end of 1985. His specific initial interests were Maternity and Child Health but this has broadened into Care of the Older Person, Minor Surgery, Travel Medicine, Sports Medicine, Mental Health and the Disabled. Dr Fhiona Barrett

Working in a variety of health care settings as a registered nurse both in N.Z & overseas, specialising in intensive & cardiothoracic ICU & clinical research, Fhiona has travelled extensively and also completed graduate & postgraduate papers in Nursing & Social Sciences before completing her medical degree at Auckland University. Dr Kerry Thomas

Kerry joined the practice in 2002 after moving to New Zealand from Wales in 1999. He is married to Nicki who also works at the practice and they have 2 adult sons. Kerry has an interest in all aspects of family medicine but these days as an experienced GP is generally at ease with complex medical problems though particularly enjoys seeing children. He is a keen gardener, has an avid interest in military history and enjoys playing golf regularly. His remaining sporting ambition is to see Wales beat the All Blacks so he can have a few quiet days where his patients will want to avoid him. Read More

Dr Todd Hulbert

Todd and his wife Michelle moved to Tauranga in 1999 and have 2 children, Aleisha and Josh. Todd worked in hospital medicine for over 4 years, with a particular interest in paediatrics, emergency medicine and cardiology, then moved into general practice at Fifth Avenue in 2003. He undertook vocational training in General Practice in 2004 and has been a partner at Fifth Avenue since 2005. Todd enjoys all aspects of general practice and family medicine and has a particular interest in paediatrics (children’s health) and skin cancer medicine and surgery. Skin cancer management has become a special interest of Todd’s’ and through 2013 and 2014 he has undertaken post graduate diplomas in both skin cancer medicine and in dermoscopy (skin cancer diagnosis) through the Skin Cancer College of Australasia allowing him to undertake more advanced types of skin cancer surgery including skin flaps and grafts. Todd also offers a range of procedures including "No Scalpel Vasectomy", ingrown toe nails and joint and carpal tunnel injections. Dr Kiran Singh

Kiran started work at Fifth Avenue in 2010 and joined as an associate one year later. He was born in South Africa and completed his training in Pretoria. He emigrated to New Zealand in 2002 and was instantly in awe of the beauty and sunshine here in the Bay of Plenty. He started work at Whakatane Hospital and then later at Tauranga Hospital. He has also worked as a locum at most major hospitals around the North and South Island. He has lived in Tauranga since 2005 and now proudly calls it home. He has a keen interest in family medicine including children and older adults, men's health, health promotion and weight management, and enjoys minor surgery and skin cancer treatment. Dr Luke Bradford

Luke has a background in Emergency medicine, Haurora practice and general medicine. He couples this with an interest in minor surgery. Hailing from mother England, Luke and his wife Dee (also a GP) moved to Tauranga in 2008. Initially for a year they fell in "life" with the Bay lifestyle, have started a family and set up home in Omokoroa. Having served his GP registrar year with 5th Avenue Luke returned to become an associate in August 2013. Luke enjoys the relationship building that general practice offers and uses this with a focus on disease prevention. Dr Alison James

Alison joined Fifth Avenue in April 2018 and became a partner in January 2019. She trained at St Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, England. However she has called New Zealand home for the past 20 years and has worked as a local Tauranga GP for the past 15 years. She has a  part-time role working at the hospital in a GP Liaison position with the District Health Board. She is passionate about the role of General Practice in promoting wellbeing and the opportunity it gives to practice medicine in a holistic way. She loves being part of a team of health professionals all with a common goal of providing great quality healthcare services. She has an interest in mental health, women's health and mind-body medicine. She lives on an avocado orchard with Richard and their 4 children who keep her busy with their sport and dancing activities. Dr Tania Stokes

Tania entered general practice after 5 years of hospital medicine in various locations around NZ– during which time she did Diplomas in Paediatrics, and in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She enjoys the wide variety of work within general practice, especially children’s and women’s health. She and husband Andy have 3 school-aged children, and live on a lifestyle block, which keeps them busy outside of work. Dr Amrita Kumar

Amrita completed her medical training in Fiji and emigrated to New Zealand in 1985. She later moved to Tauranga in 1992 and started work in general practice in 1997. She is married with 2 sons and is a proud grand mum to 3 grandchildren. Amrita has been an assistant doctor at Fifth Avenue for well over 15 years. Ella grew up in Tauranga and was always keen to come back after her studies and travel. She returned to Tauranga in 2010. She is proud to be back in the Bay along with her husband and daughter Alice. Dr Jennifer Hollway

Originally from the UK, Jen studied at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and graduated in 2008. She continued to work in the North East of England for 2 years before moving to New Zealand in 2010 for a planned “year out”. During that time she fell in love with the country and the work life balance that NZ had to offer and 6 years later she is still here. She is currently in her final year of GP training. Dr Sam Mahesh

Sam moved to NZ in 2011 after completing her medical training in India. She has worked in Tauranga and Auckland hospitals in various medical and surgical specialities before beginning her career in general practice. Dr Diana Ford

Diana and her husband Luke came to New Zealand in 2008 to work at Tauranga hospital. It was there that Diana’s love for women’s health and for the Bay of Plenty was established. Diana completed her training in England and then worked in a variety of hospital specialities, including two years in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Tauranga Hospital. Diana joined Fifth Avenue in 2014 and now works in partnership with her husband Luke. Diana has three young children and when not working, loves the outdoors. Now that the children are older, the family are getting back into all the outdoor activities that they moved to NZ for. Nurse Practitioner Julia Perry

Julia has been nursing for more than 30 years mostly in acute hospital settings in NZ and overseas. 10 years ago she moved from Auckland returning to the BOP where she grew up, and joined 5th Avenue as a practice nurse. She completed a Masters in Nursing degree and has been working as a Nurse Practitioner since February 2018. Julia has a special interest in Long-term condition management and particularly respiratory illness. She runs the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) programme at 5th Avenue, and has recently developed programmes for Asthma, Heart Failure, Cardiovascular disease and Gout. Dr Katharina McGrath

Katharina graduated from Southampton Medical School in 2006. Since then, she has worked in both the UK and New Zealand in specialties including emergency medicine, general medicine and general practice. She has also worked two seasons at Turoa Medical centre on Mt Ruapehu. Katharina and her husband recently moved to Tauranga and they are enjoying the best the BOP has to offer. Dr Alex Wagstaff

'Alex graduated from Birmingham University in 2014. She worked for a couple of years in the UK in hospital medicine before moving to Australia and worked in the Gold Coast Emergency department for a year. in 2018 her husband, Simon, was offered a job in Tauranga and they relocated to the Bay and haven’t looked back since. Alex worked at Tauranga Hospital in Emergency Medicine and Paediatrics (children’s medicine) before starting her General Practice training in 2019. Alex enjoys all aspects of General Practice.
